Telecom RAN Landscape

Its been going on for a while.
I won’t be surprised if Nokia sells some major business next year.
They have had evaluators earlier this year.

Nokia is simply too much behind Ericsson and Huawei in 5G.
Actually Huawei is leading the pack with 1-2 years in advance from Ericsson.
Then comes Ericsson on 2nd place and Nokia is way behind Ericsson on 3rd place.

Both Nokia and Ericsson are very lucky that US is chasing Huawei out of Europe.
This way both Ericsson and Nokia got access to a number of contracts in Europe they would not have even dreamed about.

But technically Huawei is a leader.
They have so many features, parameters and counters that it takes a great deal of time to understand them.
This is because Huawei had so many releases in 5G: 1.9; 2.0; 2.1; 3.0 and now 3.1.
They are now preparing for 5.0.

Unfortunatley, the “solution” they use is to go with restructure plan. But it’s not employees fault. :frowning:

Nokia and Ericsson cannot compete with Huawei.
Nobody invested tens of billions in them like China Communist Party Invested in Huawei.
This is why Huawei is no.1 now and will remain number one.

That’s true may be Nokia and Ericsson going farely but restructure, job cuts not only solution.
They need to retain talent, invest more in R&D, etc.

No way to deal with this.
They better spend money investing in Donald Trump’s campaign.
This will be the only stimulus they will get to get more contracts and to defeat Huawei.

Election manifesto give vote we will give 5G BTS free to community.

Huawei are very agressive in sales and technically, they work aroudn the clock 24x7, they have the best equipment and best prices and offer deploying networks almost for free. How can any vendor defeat them in such case?

It is impossible that any vendor defeat them except Open RAN.

Just to nominate some features that Huawei had since long time ago: IAB feature and MU-MIMO feature.

Huawei had been 1-2 years ahead since 4G days.
It’s good that they have kept this pace in 5G.
Sad to see that they have been involved in trade war.
But some say Huawei fast pace is also not good for market.
Sheer amount of their investment in R&D can only be managed if state is involved.

Yes true, it is estimated that Huawei got support from CCP of over 100Billions USD in time. This is how they got to lead the pack…

One more aspect that is very important. Nokia is in lack of engineers to work with. If Nokia would be given tomorrow the whole Europe to swap out Huawei they would not have engineers to do it. Not many persosn know Nokia RAN

Nokia usually does not work with contractors, only in very special cases.

Also it is mentioned that Nokia signed many 5G contracts. This may be true but what is important is not the number of contracts signed but how many gNodeBs to be deployed include each contract.

Huawei did a demo of IAB feature even from 2.5 years ago. It was a massive success:

But in Japan all vendors do not work with Huawei anymore.

US companies would acquire Nokia and Ericsson.

Yes, Huawei working culture very aggressive.
People seen sleeping on desks. :frowning:

Open RAN is open, public, anyone can participate and create equipment.
But it takes time to ramp up.

Recently it was announced that due to US and NATO pressure Huawei will be kicked out from Belgium, Sweden and part of Norway.
Also there are other countries like Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, etc… that signed memorandums with US for “chinese free” networks.

Yupz, still wait & see with Open RAN.

Once all telecom companies put their data on cloud, it would be possible to outsource work on Total.
Keep major work with WFH contractors/outsourced resources.
This would significantly cut the OPEX.

That explain why they boycott… huge investment from CCP and it’s work culture.

Yes, Huawei is very agressive.
They put lot of pressure on their employees.
I know cases that never went back to China for 2 years but changed projects in Europe every 3 months
and worked hard 24x7.
Don’t know when they do groceries, when they wash their clothes, when they sleep, when they rest or relax…
Every day when you come to work they were there, when you leave office they stay there.

They believe in hard work and success.

It is not that. It is pressure from boss.

But there is life after work also.
Family, children, relatives, friends, etc.
It just the pressure from CCP for return on investment and dominant world.
Work should count a lot but not everything.
I work everyday with Chinese colleagues but I don’t see such hard work from them!
I think that only true for Huawei or other such companies but not for other multinationals in China.
