Optimizing LTE Power Settings for Improved Coverage in Remote Areas

Hello Experts.

We recently upgraded our LTE network bandwidth from 10MHz to 15MHz in some remote areas. However, we’ve experienced user and traffic loss, likely due to power settings affecting coverage.

Could you please assist us in determining the optimal LTE power settings (both downlink and uplink) to enhance coverage in these locations?

Current Settings:

  • Pa = 0
  • Pb = 0
  • Reference Power = 15.2 dBm
  • RRU = Supports a maximum of 60W per port

Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

You can increase the Reference Signal Power (RS Power) to 18.2 dBm without modifying Pa and Pb settings.

Set RS Power to 18 dBm or 20 dBm
Pa = -3
Pb = 1
P0_NOMINAL_PUSCH = -85 dBm

How did you calculate it? Could you please share the manual or reference?

Thanks!

Adjusting parameters such as Reference Signal (RS) power, Pa, and Pb can significantly impact network performance.

Key Parameters:

  • Reference Signal (RS) Power: Increasing RS power can extend cell coverage. For instance, setting RS power to 18 dBm or 20 dBm has been suggested to improve coverage.
  • Pa and Pb Settings: These parameters influence the distribution of power between control and data channels. A configuration of Pa = -3 and Pb = 1 has been recommended to optimize performance.
  • P0_NOMINAL_PUSCH: Adjusting this uplink power control parameter to -85 dBm can enhance uplink performance.

It’s essential to consider the specific frequency band and hardware capabilities when making these adjustments. For example, in the 1800 MHz band with a 4x4 MIMO configuration and Remote Radio Units (RRUs) supporting 60W per port, these settings can be particularly effective.
