Hi Experts,
Can you share me in which case Short and Long DRX is configured in connected mode in LTE?
How UE knows whether Short or Long DRX is configured?
What is difference?
You can check parameter DRX or smart DRX enabled or not.
Depends on FGI bit of UE as well it supports short or long DRX.
DRX mapped with QCI profiles if both enabled then UE support both then short DRX will use always first
FGI bit 4,5 you can check.
DRX command given at MAC layer by MAC CE.
Ok, but what is the advantage of Short and Long DRX?
DRX used for battery saving where UE go in sleep mode and don’t read PDCCH.
It’s completely dependent on the FGI Bit only?
Or depend on the users as well?
Yes from UE side depends on FGI bit.
If there was a data it woke up UE again for short durations after some time instead of waiting for whole cycle.
Drx = drx active + drx sleep.
Increase the chances of early packet reception and decrease latency.
Otherwise UE have to wait let’s say for another 320msec.
Parameter in RRC connection reconfiguration given to UE, from network.
Yes, but its same for Long drx as well?
If there is only long DRX UE will read PDCCH after fixed interval say 320msec.
If there are short Drx cycles UE can wake up before 320msec multiple times (no.of short Drx cycles) for short durations (short Drx cycle time) and read the PDCCH for messages.
When we enable Long DRX there is huge dip in peak throughputs but save more battery.
Short DRX less throughput, less battery saving.
Latency increase more. Not much impact on throughput.
By enabling DRX.
Generally DRX as well switch off as lead to increase in VoLTE drop.
For this one any other parameter should adjust to increase the throughput?
So long drx enabled will be better?
Depend on the use case.
Like for iRAT anr UE needs to be forced Long DRX to get CGI.
For VoLTE calls also long DRX is not recommended.
For VoLTE calls if Long DRX enabled drops will be more?
Yes, any DRX.
