Why is Ericsson Avoiding Redcap-Based FWA While Huawei Deploys It?

Hi Experts.

Why Ericsson don’t suggest Redcap based FWA, and Huawei on the other hand is deploying Redcap based FWA?

Maybe they have concerns on lack of devices, or spectrum (licensed).

See this:

The lack of 5G standalone networks slows RedCap deployment

  • RedCap is a cool 5G technology that bridges the gap between sophisticated 5G devices and simple IoT sensors
  • But it needs to work on a 5G standalone network
  • The deployment of 5G standalone has slowed due to the general malaise in the wireless industry

Deploying RedCap is cheaper than deploying full 5G normal standard. Therefore, RedCap has more business potential and therefore huawei seeking to deploy it to introduce affordable low cost 5G to offer it for poor counteries.

But RedCap give low performance in comparison to mormal 5G standard. That’s why Ericsson is avoiding it.

It is all about business objectives and company strategy.
