What is the difference between 4G and LTE?

Guys I am new to this Telecom world. Plz explain what is the difference between 4g and LTE.

It’s all the same

Oh ok thanks. Do we need hardware change while swapping from 3g to 4g ?

LTE is technology and 4G is generation.

Ok thanks …

It’s not the same…4g is commercial brand, lte is the technology… HSPA can be 4g depending on the country

Actually, anything that meets IMT-A specs can be called 4G, such as Wimax.
The first versions of LTE are not even 4G.
Only after release 10 features it can be properly called 4G.

What about LTE-Advance ?

Someone tell me it is HSPA , but increase than HSPA with 7 Mbps

Is it right?

the thing is that only on LTE-A you can reach real 4G data rates… but most country don’t even have enought spectrum to reach that (case of Brazil, where I live. No operator have enough spectrum to reach real 4G data rates) so they decided that HSPA, that can get ~50Mbps in theory, and LTE (~100Mbps) should be called 4g just to justify the investment… now the LTE-A is what they’ve been calling 4.5G (but… as I mentioned… it isn`t even 4G for real)

4G was made to replace 3G and it offers a connection that is more reliable and delivers much higher speeds. Specifically, 4G LTE means “fourth-generation long term evolution,” with LTE being a type of 4G that delivers the fastest connection for a mobile internet experience – up to 10 times faster than 3G.

LTE is faster than what is traditionally marketed as 4G. In that regard, it is also usually more expensive. 4G, in turn, is faster than 3G.

4G stands for Fourth Generation and 4G LTE stands for Fourth Generation, Long Term Evolution.
4G LTE is the most advanced in terms of speed. The general claim is that 4G LTE networks can download data at speeds between 5 and 12 megabits per second — enough for smooth streaming for live video and better response times for online multiplayer games.

Could you please clarify a little bit on that? In my country, operators are implementing LTE with 1800 MHz band on 5 MHz bandwidth. The speed only reaches 10 to 12 Mbps (as seen from speedtest app on android).

What’s the ideal bandwidth the operators need to implement LTE-A?

Thanks

4G is the fourth generation of mobile communications which has replaced 3G. Whereas 4G LTE, the long term evolution, is an improved version of 4G which is different from 4G in many ways. This technology is an amalgamation of various different technologies. It works using carrier aggregation. Carrier aggregation lets 4G+ enabled phones receive data from multiple bands.

This cutting-edge technology facilitates a faster, enhanced internet experience. In the most basic sense, 4G+ has evolved from the existing 4G technology. Hence, it is faster than the latter. It lets more data pass through the network system, and this amounts to better user experience.

LTE vs 4G

‘4G connections meet the standards of 100Mbps on the move, and 1Gbps on stationary. Anything that achieves less is 4G LTE.’

The Cellular Network Regulatory, ITU-R, put some basic rules about how fast a 4G connection can be.

In order to qualify for 4G , a network needs to reach speeds of 100Mbps if situated on a moving vehicle . However, when connecting to a stationary network, a user should expect to see speeds of at least 1Gbps.

Telecom companies were unable to fulfill these conditions.

4G technology was developed under the name “Long-Term Evolution” to indicate that the technology is under development.

LTE was faster than 3G but did not achieve the minimum speeds for 4G.

Because of how long this development took; The ITU-R lowered the terms of the 4G standard if the company could demonstrate a much higher speed than 3G.

LTE accomplished this and thus became known as ‘4G LTE’.

Then 4G speeds were approached with LTEA development.

By looking at studies conducted by OpenSignal, a mobile analytics company.

OpenSignal’s report, The State of the Mobile Network Experience 2019, On page 5 of the report there is a graph showing the average download speed for each country. South Korea on top with a download speed of 50MB /s; However, this is still a far from 100MB ,Maximum theoretical average load speed
