What is SDMA technology?

  • SDMA is a type of multiplexing technology used in mobile network.

  • Stands for space division multiple access.

  • Different from FDMA , TDMA , CDMA.

  • SDMA aims to use the same frequency channel on the same time and code by different users.

  • Sims to achieve high spectral efficiency.

  • To share the same channel among different users using SDMA we have to ensure the enough separation between uses.

  • SDMA can be implemented by using sector antenna 120 degree coverage.

  • Users can communicate using the same channel.

  • Beam forming technology used to let the antenna provide narrow beam focusing only on the destination user to avoid interference.

  • The main disadvantage of SDMA is the design complexity and hardware requirements for handset and site.
