What are the reasons for N26 interface between node MME and AMF?

n26 is needed mainly for the call continuity when UE moves from EPC to 5GC or 5GC to EPC

Refer 3GPP 23.501 and 23.502

This is very important when you have VoNR to Volte and Volte to VoNR handover other than Xn Based Handover.Specially important when you have standalone EPC nodes co-exsists with dual mode core(DMC).
