Below understanding for csi-rs usage in NR:

  1. Used for interference management i.e. UE measure csi-rs to report cqi, ri, pmi
  2. Used for beam management i.e. to switch between csi-rs beams
  3. Used for cell mobility in idle and connected mode i.e. csi-rs rsrp used
