Using AI Tools at work - when they help and when they don’t

Using AI tools at work isn’t always useful or correct. In certain cases, it’s better to rely on other sources.

AI tools like ChatGPT, for example, are just tools - meaning that as an engineer, you have the intelligence to distinguish the information the tool provides, because ChatGPT can sometimes give you a lot of wrong information.

Therefore:

  1. First, don’t rely on ChatGPT for precise or sensitive information.
  2. Second, double-check results and always be skeptical of what it gives you every time you search for something.
  3. Third, for specialized topics, it’s preferable to consult books, references, specialized websites, or scientific journals, because these sources will give you more accurate answers.

In general, use AI - but with awareness and with the understanding that it has a high error rate and low accuracy.

For example, you can use it to prepare a presentation, simplify a concept, give examples, compare products or certain technologies, or for translation and languages.

Avoid using it for detailed technical or specialized information, for specialized medical information, and don’t rely on it for sensitive decisions.
