UM or AM Traffic

Hi Experts,
How it is determined whether a traffic is treated to be UM or AM.
At that point I don’t think that network layer of the traffic is checked whether it is UDP or TCP?
Then what is the method of treating packets on layer2 in terms of treating them as AM or UM?

As per QCI range it will be taken care at RLC layer we have different IE for UM and AM.
UM traffic, i.e. VoLTE call with QCI 1 range QCI 1 to 4.
AM traffic like email QCI range 5 to 9.
