UE Power Class Reporting in NR Capabilities (ue-PowerClass vs ue-PowerClass-v1610)

Hello experts,

In the UE capability information, I see that the UE reports the power class for a particular band as follows:

ue-PowerClass : pc2
ue-PowerClass-v1610 : pc1dot5

Could someone clarify which power class should be considered in this case?

I checked 3GPP TS 38.306 but couldn’t find any section that clearly distinguishes between these two IEs.

Thanks in advance!

Use the newer ue-PowerClass-v1610 = pc1dot5 when your network and band support Release 16 features.

Thanks. So, essentially, it depends on which power class the network chooses to support, right?

Yes, the network has the final say.

The UE simply advertises its supported options, and the gNodeB selects the one that best fits its policy and technical constraints.

Does the network indicate which power class it has selected, so that the UE can report PHR accordingly?

No, the network does not explicitly signal “I’ve selected Power Class X” to the UE.

However, it implicitly enforces the effective power limit through the p-Max parameter included in the RRC signaling. The UE then uses this value, together with its own capability information, to determine and report the PHR accordingly.
