I stood next to a 5G tower and asked the dumbest question of my career. 
The answer completely broke my brain. 
I’m a telecom engineer.
I climb towers for a living. 
But that day I looked at a 5G antenna and thought:
“Why does THIS thing need so much more spectrum than that old 2G tower right next to it?”
I should have known.
I didn’t. 
So I went home and figured it out.
Here’s what nobody explains simply 
Imagine spectrum is a water pipe 
2G — coffee stirrer
200 kHz wide
Just enough for your voice
Data? Technically yes. Practically? Pain. 
3G — garden hose
5 MHz wide
Mobile internet was BORN here
We thought it was magic 
4G — fire hose with valves
1.4 all the way to 20 MHz
First network smart enough to adapt 
Carrier Aggregation = combining pipes = genius 
5G — a 10-lane highway
Up to 100 MHz on Sub-6 GHz
Up to 400 MHz on mmWave
Not an upgrade. A completely new road. 
Here’s the mistake everyone makes
“5G is fast because of better modulation”
Speed starts with BANDWIDTH first
Think of it this way 
A sports car on a dirt road is still slow.
Put it on a 10-lane highway?
Now THAT’S 5G. 
Each generation taught us something different 
2G → be efficient
3G → be mobile
4G → be flexible
5G → stop thinking small
Video call with your family? 4G is perfect 
Cloud gaming on a moving train? You need 5G 
1,000 sensors running a smart factory? 2G would literally melt 
5G isn’t coming for your phone.
It’s coming for everything around you. 
My personal wow moment? 4G. 
Streaming a video in a moving car felt like actual black magic.
But 5G’s biggest wow?
Most people haven’t felt it yet.
It’s not about Netflix loading faster.
It’s about a world that talks to itself.
