Open RAN RU,DU and CU Topology

Hello.

Open RAN follows an hierarchical topology where different RUs are connected to a single DU and different DUs are connected to a single CU which is then connected to the 5GC right?

If so, is there a fixed number of RUs that are connected to a single DU and a number of DUs that are connected to a CU? How does one implement and know how many RUs can be connected to a DU and how many DUs can be connnected to a CU?

There is no shared/standard rule in this.

The numbers depend upon various factors like SW, hardware, band bandwidth, etc.

One Major O-RAN vendor mentioned 1024 RUs per DU and 1024 DUs per CU - All theoretical Numbers.

In practical…it varies.
