NR SA: Activating PDSCH Beam for Data Transfer with Rank 4 Reporting in Medium Bitmap Scenario

Hello Experts.

For NR SA, if for medium bitmap all bits set to 1 i.e. 11111111, then it indicates 8 SSB beam index there and UE will select best index?

How to activate PDSCH beam here for data transfer for rank 4 reporting?

Those 8 beams occupy different location in space and have different timing.

PDSCH beams are activated whenever there is data to transfer including in symbols with SSB beams.

Like 1 SSB beams there are 4 CSI-RS beams.

Similarly any logic for PDSCH beams there?

Let SSB beams aside… PDSCH is something else.

do the PDSCH beams mean the PMI/SRS based beams?

Hello NR Experts.

As we have 8 bits for medium bitmap 11111111, but for NR it’s mentioned we have transmission scheme 1, where max 8 layers can be there for data transfer… what use of 8 SSB beams deployment?

Does 8 SSB beam = 8 PDSCH beams with single layer?

SSB beams are dividing cell coverage area in to parts.

Objective of having SSB beam is to increase idle mode coverage with the help of beam, SSB beam.

Don’t get confuse with SSB beam and PDSCH beam.

Actually it’s query not confusion…

I have read NR in Bullets, and it did not mentioned clearly for PDSCH beams linking.

Earlier vendor used to have PDSCH beams within SSB beams.

In Huawei gNodeB can have simultaneous 16 PDSCH layers for MU-MIMO.

Those are not related with SSB at all.

In case of 5G NSA, the parameter ’ mediumbitmap’ indicates the maximum no of SSB beams (here 8 beams) within a SSB burst.

As mentioned , SSB beams are for coverage and initial access.

Transmission scheme references to the PDSCH transmission scheme using Type 1 Single Panel antenna where max no of RI = 8 is possible.

Since PDSCH beams are narrower than SSB beams.
