New 5G UL Throughput Record

New 5G UL throughput record

Ericsson accelerates 5G with Massive MIMO single user uplink data rate record

This is notable because uplink has always been the bottleneck in mobile communication.

Ericsson reached near theoretical peak uplink single user throughput leveraging the SU-MIMO technology and uplink (UL) 256 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) in New Radio (NR) Standalone (SA) mode.

It says n78 but it doesn’t say dl:ul config.
To understand the ul throughput better.
Also no mention if it was 4 ul layers or not.

Any example of actual need for high modulation uplink?
Can only think of uploading 4K movies.

It is needed at concerts where ul is bottleneck.

Which frame structure they used?
I didn’t seem more then 38 Mbps for UL.

Ericsson has achieved yet another 5G technical milestone, further accelerating 5G with single user multiple input multiple output (SU-MIMO) by delivering a single user uplink data rate of 315 megabits per second (Mbps), 15-20 times faster than today’s typical uplink speed. With uplink data rates at that speed, consumers will be able to more quickly share 4k/8k video content captured by 5G mobile devices, thereby helping deliver on the promise of 5G to enable movie-quality video directly from users and further democratizing content creation.

E// AAS radio 6449.

DL throughput: peak 1556Mbps, avg 864Mbps.
UL throughput: peak 315Mbps, avg 74Mbps.

DL peak is about 4 times UL peak, so TDD DL/UL pattern should be 4-1 or 8-2.
UL also use max 4 layers but almost 1 layer because avg ~ 1/4 of peak.
