“Network slicing is simple.”
That’s the lie we keep hearing.
The reality is this:
It has many phases.
Here are 4 phases:
Preparation
Network Slice Templates are created and verified.
The necessary network environment is prepared.
Other preparations are made to support the full lifecycle.
Instantiation & Activation
It is now ready for operation.
The slice is activated for routing traffic to it.
Dedicated databases are provisioned if needed.
Shared and non-shared Network Functions are instantiated and activated.
Runtime
Supervision and reporting provide ongoing monitoring.
Modifications can include upgrades or reconfigurations.
The slice can be scaled up or down.
Decommissioning
This step is called deactivation.
Dedicated resources are retrieved, terminated, or reused.
Shared resources are reconfigured.
And this is just the beginning.
As 5G evolves, slicing will become faster and more common.
More industries will benefit.
And, kore use cases will emerge.
Thanks for reading.
