Network slicing is simple

“Network slicing is simple.”

That’s the lie we keep hearing.

The reality is this:
It has many phases.

Here are 4 phases:

Preparation

:high_voltage: Network Slice Templates are created and verified.
:high_voltage: The necessary network environment is prepared.
:high_voltage: Other preparations are made to support the full lifecycle.

Instantiation & Activation

:high_voltage: It is now ready for operation.
:high_voltage: The slice is activated for routing traffic to it.
:high_voltage: Dedicated databases are provisioned if needed.
:high_voltage: Shared and non-shared Network Functions are instantiated and activated.

Runtime

:high_voltage: Supervision and reporting provide ongoing monitoring.
:high_voltage: Modifications can include upgrades or reconfigurations.
:high_voltage: The slice can be scaled up or down.

Decommissioning

:high_voltage: This step is called deactivation.
:high_voltage: Dedicated resources are retrieved, terminated, or reused.
:high_voltage: Shared resources are reconfigured.

And this is just the beginning.

As 5G evolves, slicing will become faster and more common.

More industries will benefit.

And, kore use cases will emerge.
