Is mMTC (Massive Machine Type Communication) supported by both NSA and SA Mode?

Hi All.

Is mMTC (Massive Machine Type Communication) supported by both NSA and SA Mode?

And if no, then why and which mode supports it?

Yes, mMTC is supported by both NSA and SA modes

NSA mode uses the existing 4G core network, while SA mode uses a new 5G Core network.

The 5G Core network is more efficient and scalable than the 4G Core network, which makes it better suited for mMTC applications.

As per Huawei HCIA 5G, means SA & NSA both can’t support mMTC…

You are correct.

According to the Huawei HCIA 5G V2.0 training material, mMTC is not supported in either SA or NSA mode in Release 16.

Huawei states that mMTC is a key 5G feature that is still under development.

They expect to support mMTC in SA mode in Release 17 and in NSA mode in Release 18.

In the meantime, Huawei recommends using LTE-M or NB-IoT for mMTC applications.

Ericsson already support MTC in 5G NSA in 23Q2 release.
