Is Legacy BSS Still Effective for MVNOs in 2025?

With telecom technology evolving rapidly, many MVNOs are moving toward more flexible, cloud-based, and API-driven solutions. In this context, is a legacy BSS (Business Support System) still effective for MVNOs today?

Hi @Hassham ,

Can you elaborate more on what you meant by legacy BSS components please?Cloud is just an environment according to my understanding and logical BSS components can be implimented in CNF or in a VNF without a doubt at the same time in Bare metal server as well.

thank you

Thanks for clarifying — totally agree that cloud is just an environment and BSS can be deployed in CNF, VNF, or even bare metal.

When I said “legacy BSS,” I was thinking less about where it’s deployed and more about how it’s built. Older, monolithic systems often make it harder to roll out changes quickly, integrate with digital channels, or support new MVNO business models.

Even if they’re virtualized, the rigidity of the architecture can still slow things down compared to more modular, API-driven stacks.

Legacy BSS still “works,” but it limits agility. MVNOs today need cloud-native, API-driven platforms to launch services faster, cut costs, and integrate seamlessly. At TelcoEdge, we see flexible BSS as essential for MVNOs to stay competitive in a digital-first market.

I’ve come across TelcoEdge Inc before — great to see your perspective on how flexible BSS is shaping the MVNO space.
