Initial Context Setup Timer: Maximum and Recommended Values on Ericsson CN (MME)

Good day, Experts,

Can anyone help confirm the maximum and recommended values for the Initial Context Setup timer on Ericsson CN (MME)?

This is the time after which an ERAB failure is recorded as an MME failure if no response is received from the UE, correct?

For Huawei, it’s 6 seconds, and for ZTE, it’s 10 seconds.

Not sure about Ericsson MME…

In Ericsson Core Network, specifically for the Mobility Management Entity (MME), the Initial Context Setup Timer (often referred to as T3417 or similar) controls the timeout for setting up a connection between the MME and eNodeB.

Here’s a general guideline for the Initial Context Setup Timer:

Maximum Value: This timer can vary depending on software versions and specific network configurations. However, it’s generally set in a range of 5 to 10 seconds (5000 to 10000 milliseconds).
Recommended Value: The recommended value for the Initial Context Setup Timer is typically around 6 seconds (6000 milliseconds). This value balances the need to quickly detect failures without causing unnecessary retries or delays in session setup.

It’s best to refer to the specific documentation for your Ericsson software version to confirm these values, as they can vary based on the configuration and software updates.

Adjustments might also be necessary based on network conditions and performance requirements.

Many thanks brothers, very informative and helpful!
