Important tips about Microwave Antenna

  • It’s directional antenna, which means it focus the signal in one beam.

  • Antenna transmit & receive the signal point to point and it generate lobes.

  • There’s 2 types of lobes:

    1. Main lobe : it contain majority of power and it directed towards farend antenna.

    2. Side lobe : act as Interference.

  • Antenna has 2 types :

    1. Short haul: small size, used for short distance , use high frequency.

    2. Long haul: large diameter , used for long distances with low frequency range.

  • Antenna in microwave use frequency range from 4-86 GHz (traditional band , V band , E band)

  • Large antennas should be assembled because it consists of:

    1. Wwaveguide interface
    2. Reflector
    3. Radome
    4. Shield / absorber
    5. Antenna feed
    6. Antenna mount
  • The most important part is the antenna feeder , other parts used to mount the antenna and reduce the side lobe.

  • Antenna diameter is from 20 cm to 4 meters.

  • Antenna gain is the ability of the dish to focus and direct the beam to the far end.

  • Antenna gain= directivity and it measured by dbi (referred to isotropic).

  • Antenna gain could reach 40 d|Bi or more.

  • Antenna installed with outdoor unit using these 2 methods:

    1. Direct mounting
    2. Separate mounting
  • If separate mounting used, we should connect the dish antenna with outdoor unit using waveguide
