IAB Feature (Integrated Access and Backhaul) in 5G

Hello,
Is anyone aware of a 5G network that uses IAB feature integrated access and backhaul?

Admin note: this post was updated with image below.

Its (IAB) part of Rel 16 work group, unsure it available today on commercial networks.

Whats is IAB? Access Barring of some sort?

Integrated Access Backhaul.
It replaces fiber to some 5G sites.
Transmission between sites is done on radio using PRBs. So if you have 20 5G sites with LOS to each other you need fiber just for 6-7 and rest will be connected via IAB feature.

Wow. Will it work like a side link i.e. on different band and frequency?

More details about IAB feature here:

Why do we need to use IAB feature where as we always can use in any sites fibers … ? there’s no limit on using fibers cables regarding to the sits …means at any site can use fiber cables…

What’s the motivation of using IAB and what tradeoff /advantage I get?

Hi All.

Has anyone seen IAB feature used in live network (it replace optical fiber to some sites for early deployment):

It is said that it saves 60-70% of sites to install fiber.

It works only in initial deployment when network is not loaded.

There is this article on Huawei IAB deployment:
