Hello Experts.
How VoNR Latency is Lower Than VoLTE in UE-to-gNB Communication?
By relocating the UPF from the core network closer to the gNB.
I mean, VoNR call latency is lower than VoLTE. How?
Due to low latency of 5G network.
Actually, it’s not significantly lower and is mostly 90% marketing.
As colleagues said, VoNR has lower latency than VoLTE primarily due to the inherent advantages of 5G technology over 4G. 5G networks are designed with lower latency in mind, employing advanced technologies like network slicing and edge computing.
The 5G core network is optimized for real-time applications, reducing processing delays.
VoNR leverages simplified signaling procedures and faster handover mechanisms, contributing to quicker call establishment.
Moreover, Network slicing in 5G allows for the creation of dedicated network segments with optimized parameters for voice services, ensuring minimal interference and reduced latency.
In addition, 5G utilizes higher-frequency spectrum bands, enabling faster data transmission and lower propagation delays.
Advanced modulation schemes and beamforming techniques in 5G further enhance efficiency and reduce latency.
The attached image shows a comparison
Which has lower latency: EPS FB or VoNR?
Most likely VoNR, due to 5G access.
VoNR has better latency and a higher MOS score in good coverage areas (mid coverage).
However, in poor coverage conditions, VoLTE achieves a better score.
Overall, when comparing VoNR vs. VoLTE MOS scores, VoLTE tends to perform better.
During EPS FB, there is a pause after the 183 Session Progress message.
What is the ideal minimum and maximum time supported until the 180 Ringing message?
VoNR has lower latency because it is classified as guaranteed QoS whereas the EPS FB (VoLTE) is non-Guaranteed. ( See the table in my previous reply)
