How to quickly ruin your career

I’m a big fan of Leila. So that maybe makes me suspicious - for sharing anything from her.

I’ve already learned a lot of Excel and Power BI with her, and I’m still learning (that’s why she is one of the selected Power BI gurus in our Curated list for Power BI).

But in this video she goes beyond Excel and Power BI.

She gives us some excellent “Career Advice” - only inverted: purposely, the video is like an “ultimate guide” to sabotaging your career growth and losing motivation at work.

Watch the video at the end of this post, and also see its following summary.

Follow these simple steps, and you’ll be sure not to get promoted:

  1. Stop Learning
  2. Complain. A lot.
  3. Make yourself irreplaceable
  4. Stay Invisible
  5. Blame Others

But if you actually want to succeed and advance in your career, it’s time to start doing the opposite.

Communicate effectively, be active, take initiative, and actively seek feedback.

Come up with solutions, not problems. Take responsibility for your own actions and learn from your own mistakes.

And invest in your personal development. Stay up-to-date, there is always more to learn.

There’s plenty of free content and online courses out there, that you can take whenever it fits your schedule. Even half an hour a day can make a big difference in your career.

The choice is yours.
