How to Quickly Check DWDM Network Performance in Just 3 Steps

If you ever need to quickly check the DWDM network, just follow these three simple steps:

:one: Check OCH Status (WDM Layer)
:small_blue_diamond: Why?
This tells us if all optical channels (OCH) are up and running.
If there’s a fiber cut, power issue, or optical failure, we’ll see it here.
If OCH is fine, it means OTS and OMS sections are also fine, so the issue is probably in the service layer.

:two: Check Client Port (Service Layer)
:small_blue_diamond: Why?
Make sure client ports (Ethernet, SDH, OTN) are receiving signals properly.
Look for low Rx power, faulty transceivers, or port alarms.
If OCH is normal but the service is still down, then the problem is likely at the client port or equipment level.

:three: Check Cross-Connections & Configurations
:small_blue_diamond: Why?
Verify that traffic is mapped correctly - no missing connections.
Make sure there are no misconfigurations (wrong provisioning, disabled paths).
If any recent changes were made, check if they affected the service.
So, whenever there’s an issue, start with these three checks before going deeper.

Hope this helps make your troubleshooting faster and easier!
