How to calculate cell range for a site?

Hi Experts.

How to determine the right cell range for a site?

Any particular formula?

Admin note: this post was updated with image below.

Nope, is not related to formula. Is related to height and tilt.

And HPVB ( half power vertical beamwidth) of the antenna.

Could you please give example how it was correctly determined?

Because I am just using the tilt calculator what ever values come up from the calculator I refer it as the value for the cellrange.

You can play around here:

Equations are also there.

Be mindful that ground height needs to be considered when determining Tilt.

Site located on higher ground will need extra tilt to control propagation and avoid unnecessary overshoot in unwanted areas to destroy dominance and create interference.

How to Know Cell Range in NR?

  • Check : PRACH Configuration index value ,to know which format used (Long PRACH Format 0) or (Short PRACH Format A2,B2,C2).

    • Long Sequence : length 839, four preamble formats that originated from the LTE preambles are supported, mainly targeting large cell deployment scenarios. These formats can only be used in FR1 and have a subcarrier spacing of 1.25 or 5 kHz.(Used in TDD FR1 in NR).
    • Short sequence : length 139, nine different preamble formats are introduced in NR, mainly targeting the small/normal cell and indoor deployment scenarios.
  • Based on PRACH Format (Long or Short) ,check table for Zero Correlation Zone Configuration to get Cell Radius.
