Grid resource consumption by RS or DMRS signals in LTE, NR

Hi All.

How do you feel about RS or DMRS signals in LTE, NR?
It consume about 10% grid resource.
I feel quite high, why need too much?
Is demodulation, measurement is difficult, so need many RE for RS?
