For upgrading a 2T2R site to 4T4R, do we need to change the installed antenna?

Hello Experts.

For upgrading a 2T2R site to 4T4R, do we need to change the installed antenna?

If you already have a 4T4R capable antenna, then you don’t need to.

Else to get the benefit, you should go for a change.

I don’t think it is a 4T4R antenna…

It is installed for 3G and now used for 4G with 2T2R.

If we configure the same antenna with 4T4R, will it work?

No.

It must has 4 physical ports.

4 physical ports or it is antenna internal structure?

The antenna should has 4 physical ports.

What about the radio part (RFM).

Does it will have 4 output ports?

Check the antenna specs sheet you will know the capability if it supports 4T4R it ok go ahead.

If not replace it with one support or configure 2 antenna 2T2R to work with 4T4R mode.

Yes Absolutely: it’s required.

You need one more bundle space on antenna for 4 Ports Radio installation.

It can be specified in Antenna Data.

If your Antenna supports 4T4R (has the required physical ports) then no need to change the Antenna, the only issue is, that you need to check the RRU to see if it supports the MIMO antennas, and can deliver the required power to all the ports.
