Sometimes the best way to benchmark modem performance is to run them side-by-side to compare performance.
This simple setup allowed us to compare attach behavior, stability and data reliability under identical network conditions across different devices, operators and RF bands.
This setup used a TeraTerm Macro script to the run the same test on each device and a Python script to post process the log files to compare statistics.
Key observations:
• CAT-1 still dominates CAT-M at the cell edge
• Some modems silently failed “registered”, but no service
• A few passed everything and were stable, consistent and efficient
• One rebooted often under mobility stress.
Parallel testing saves time and brings real insight not seen in lab testing.
