Have you ever tried to deploy a DWDM link and don’t have success due to a bad fiber conditions?
So today we gonna talk about, fiber characterization; the unsung hero of any new DWDM Project!
Before you light up those high-speed wavelengths, there’s one crucial step that makes or breaks your DWDM deployment: fiber characterization.
Think of it as a full-body checkup for your fiber before putting it to work. Sure, the specs might look good on paper, but real-world conditions tell a different story. Here’s why fiber characterization is non-negotiable:
-
Loss & Attenuation Check – If your fiber is eating too much power, your signal won’t go the distance.
-
CD (Chromatic Dispersion) & PMD (Polarization Mode Dispersion) – High-speed DWDM hates these distortions. Ignoring them? Good luck maintaining 400G stability!
-
OTDR Insights – Splice losses, bends, or hidden surprises? You don’t want nasty surprises mid-deployment.
Skipping this step is like trying to run a marathon without checking if your shoes fit. Invest time in fiber characterization, and your DWDM network will thank you later!
