DoCoMo’s OREC program

DoCoMo’s OREC program is to create integrations of multi-vendor Open RAN systems. It brings commercially available solutions by combining vendor combinations to suit deployment use cases.

There are currently four types of multi-vendor vRAN integrations as per the program. Fujitsu and NVIDIA’s integration is Type 1, based on a Wind River virtualization platform in Intel-based hardware from Fujitsu and Fujitsu’s vRAN software.

Fujitsu improved the processing capacity of the base station system by using NVIDIA’s “A100X,” which will only require software updates to handle future high-load data processing loads such as Massive MIMO.

The other Three types are spearheaded by NEC (2 Types.) and Mavenir (1 Type).

Update: The program Name Changed from OREC (OpenRan ECosystem) to OREX (OpenRan Ecosystem eXperience) — further technical details Covered in another post. Refer Sunil Kumar on LinkedIn: NTT DoCoMo OREX
