Dispersion in optical fiber and its type Chromatic, Polarization mode with animation in DWDM network

Dispersion and Types of dispersion with animation,
Dispersion is commonly used While working on an optical network

What’s dispersion, its effect, types, solution?

  1. Dispersion is one of the most important paramters that negatively affect the WDM network.

  2. It can limit capacity and limit the WDM system reach and can cause distortion.

  3. Dispersion is pulse broadening due to different speeds of various channels.

  4. We have 2 types of dispersion:

    • CD : chromatic dispersion.
    • PMD : polarization mode dispersion.
  5. CD occur when different wavelengths propagate at different speeds.

  6. PMD occur when different light polarizations travel at different speeds.

  7. dispersion cause the signals reach the destination at different times and cause the contiguous pulses to interfere.

  8. we have another classification for dispersion :

    • Material dispersion
    • Waveguide dispersion
  9. Material dispersion occur when wavelengths travel at different speeds.

  10. Waveguide dispersion occur because of different refractive index between core and cladding.

  11. Solution for dispersion is to use dispersion compensation optical fiber that can compensate the positive dispersion value added.
