How many CSI-RS ports?

(run LST NRDUCELLCSICODEBOOK and look for N1 and N2)

CSI-RS ports cannot exceed 32.

Increasing the number of CSI-RS ports allows narrower 5G beamforming and improves SINR.

So it’s important to configure CSI-RS ports to the maximum supported by the AAU.

At least that’s how it works on n78 TDD deployments.

There is no such command.

Try LST NRCELLCSIRS for gNodeB
Try LST CELLCSIRSPARACFG for eNodeB

Here:

Sorry, I haven’t worked with Huawei equipment in a long time and I don’t have the documentation right now. Maybe someone else here can help.

Also, from your screenshot it’s not possible to see the number of CSI-RS ports configured for the n78 TDD cell.

Both Ericsson and Huawei have AAU that support 32 csi-rs ports.

I don’t know the exact command to check the CSI-RS ports.

I don’t have the Huawei HedEx documentation with me right now.

This is only the instantaneous throughput measurement.

Share the hourly trend for user count and cell throughput over the past week, then compare the results during periods with the lowest number of users in the cell.

In simple terms, you need to measure the maximum throughput when only a single user is connected to the cell.

Check these commands:

  • LST NRLOCELLCSIRS
  • LST NRDUCELLCSIRS
  • LST NRDUCELLRSVDPARAM

CSI-RS ports can improve throughput, but your main concern is the peak throughput of the cell.

You should verify that using a single UE under good coverage conditions with the best achievable SINR.

Like this…is a single user throughput case.

Also, for a single-user test, the MIMO rank indicator should ideally reach Rank 4.

Make sure MU-MIMO layers are enabled as high as possible as well - for example, up to 16 layers in UL and 16 layers in DL where supported.

Which one should I choose for 5G NSA?

For 5G NSA, enable MU-MIMO and consider licensing higher layer capacity - for example, up to 16 layers per cell - especially in high-traffic scenarios where the load justifies it.

Also, DMRS configuration in 5G can help improve throughput performance in both NSA and SA deployments.

In some Ericsson configurations, certain DMRS-related features are disabled by default, so optimizing them may improve channel estimation, link stability, and overall spectral efficiency - especially under high-order MIMO and beamforming scenarios.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but proper DMRS tuning can definitely contribute to better throughput performance.

We use Huawei. Are there any features or parameter changes that can improve 5G NSA throughput?

What is the recommended value for CSI-RS ports?

The recommended setting is usually the maximum number of CSI-RS ports supported by the AAU.

As per 3GPP specifications, the maximum number of CSI-RS ports is 32.

However, only newer-generation AAUs typically support the full 32-port configuration.

Do you know the exact parameter name?

In which parameter can I check the layer value?

Bro, DMRS in 5G refers to the Demodulation Reference Signal. It is mainly beneficial in low-load scenarios.

For Ericsson, the related parameter is pdschDmrsAllowed , which is set to false by default and needs to be enabled (true ).

You may want to check the equivalent parameter or feature configuration for Huawei as well.

The value is 8, which is the maximum supported value in the Huawei system.

It is definitely impossible. There are cases with a value of 32 for Huawei. Maybe for your AAU, the maximum supported value is 8.

FR2 Max Cell CSI-RS Port Num:
Indicates the maximum number of ports used for CSI-RS measurement in the cell.
