Over the past 12 months, almost every major telecom vendor has announced an AI strategy.

Operators are investing in:

  • AI-powered customer support

  • Network automation

  • Predictive maintenance

  • Fraud detection

  • Revenue assurance

  • Intelligent service orchestration

The question is whether the industry is simply adding AI to existing workflows or genuinely redesigning telecom operations around AI.

Historically, telecom systems were built around human intervention.

A customer requests a service → a ticket is created → an operations team reviews it → a change is executed.

AI changes that model.

Theoretically, future telecom operations could look like:

Customer request → AI decision engine → automated policy validation → automated provisioning → real-time monitoring.

No tickets.

No manual intervention.

No operational handoffs.

Some operators are already moving in this direction, particularly in customer service and network optimization.
