I read it as per 3gpp rel 15 DFT-S-OFDM specified for uplink which can use pi/2 bpsk in areas of week coverage.
Not sure is it related to 5gi?

I’m also not sure about 5Gi, but I think pi/2 BPSK got released in R16.
I saw most of the contributions from IITH on that topic.

Does anyone know and have any update of the 5Gi standard that is being said will prevail in India?
How different is it from the 3GPP Release 15?

Sounds like a marketing gimmick.
The only way to differentiate the 5G features based on different/newer releases.
