5G Explained! A High Level Overview

Hi everyone,

I’m sharing a short high-level overview of 5G foundations (3GPP Rel-15) that I put together based on technical trainings, vendor sessions, and industry material.

The goal was to connect the main 5G building blocks in a clear, visual way, covering:

• 5G New Radio and adaptive air interface
• mmWave, beamforming, and Massive MIMO
• Cloud-native 5G Core and service-based architecture
• Network slicing and differentiated connectivity
• Mobile Edge Computing (MEC)
• RAN evolution (RU / DU / CU)

All references used to shape the material are listed at the end, including 3GPP specs, vendor white papers, TelecomHall, and content shared by engineers such as Sergio Rivera Cuevas, Mohamed Abbas (Moniem-Tech), and Mohamed El Adawi.

Uploading the document here in case it’s useful as a starting point.

I also shared a short post on LinkedIn with some context, for anyone interested. 5G Explained: Linkedin post

Happy to hear feedback or exchange ideas.

Kind Regards,

A well-written explanation of 5G that keeps the flow simple and easy to understand. The additional breakdown of LTEand 5G integration complements the topic nicely, especially for those new to mobile networks.

Thank you for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I’ve just explored TechLTEworld and I’m impressed by the amount and quality of content covering both 4G and 5G. Great resource for the community.
