1. TDA (Tributary Disable Action)
TDA is a feature in WDM transponders that defines the action taken when a tributary port is disabled.
Possible actions include:
- Sending a Local Fault signal
- Shutting down the laser
- Transmitting idle frames
A tributary port may be disabled for several reasons, such as:
- The port being placed in a locked state
- Hardware faults
- Fiber or line issues
2. Administrative Status (Admin Status)
Admin status represents the configured state of a port in the NMS (Network Management System).
Common states include:
- Locked
- Unlocked
- Maintenance
This status is manually configurable via the NMS.
- Locked:
The port is not in service and does not transmit or receive optical signals. - Unlocked:
The port becomes active and starts emitting optical signals.
3. Operational Status
Operational status reflects the actual ability of the port to carry traffic.
Possible states:
- Enabled
- Disabled
This status cannot be manually set; it is only monitored.
- Enabled:
The port is functioning correctly and can send/receive traffic. - Disabled:
Indicates a problem that requires troubleshooting.
Basic troubleshooting steps:
- Verify the port is unlocked (Admin Status)
- Check that the configuration is correct
- Inspect for hardware failures
- If necessary, perform a warm or cold card reset
- Use loopback testing to isolate the root cause
