Can you please enumerate the main differences between mmWave and sub-6GHz?
In 3GPP Rel-16 of 5G standard the considered spectrum is given in two parts:
Spectrum part FR1 - Frequency range 410 MHz – 7125 MHz (so called sub-6GHz)
Spectrum part FR2 - Frequency range 24250 MHz – 52600 MHz (so called mmWave)
mid-bands range from 3.4GHz to 6GHz and are not considered mmWave.
5G is the first system where frequencies higher than 6 GHz are taken into account.
One may pose the question: if the price is so exciting then why nobody used mmWaves previously in cellular systems?
