Beam Management, Beam Switching and Beam Refinement in 5G NR

Yes, with TCI commands inside the DCI format 1_1.

Not able to find same in L3 message.
Without refined beam enabled its seems for report quantity only 2 options ie none or ssb rsrp can be used.
Or it can be cri-ri-PMI-cqi or cri -ri-cqi but UE didnt report cri without refined beam.
Csi reporting cqi ,ri pmi according to NZP csi reference signals for channel measurement using CSI resource set 0.

How do you recognize in logs that beam refinement has been enabled?
Based on what message?

CSI-RS beam selection definitely needs CSI-RSRP to be reported in MAC CSF info, right?

For gNodeb is a must to know the best 4 CSI-RS beams otherwise he would not know on which one of them to send the PDSCH.
SO must be included in the MAC LL1 CSF Indicator.
But @ankgitm says that first it is using SSB beams and after beams refinement it is using CSI-RS beams.

Yes. So whenever beam refinement is required CSI-RSRP is a must.

As per my understanding when gNB configured report quantity as cri rsrp then it’s TRUE indication for beam refinement.
Parameter is there to control refined beam true or false in gNB.

But then when it wil use SSB beams if it is like you say?
Because gNB configures report quantity as CSI-RS from the beginning.

But we can’t control report quantity mechanisms.
As of now you can’t see cri rsrp in logs without beam refinement.

I have not seen logs with report quantity= SSB-RSRP, as far as I remember.

We’re again mixing cri with cri rsrp.
We need to be clear that cri rsrp not possible without beam refinement.

Ok most of logs u will see cri -ri-PMI-cqi only.
Here cri not indicate measurement of CSI-RS beams.
It indicate NZP NZP CSI used for channel measurement.
We use csi resource set 0 for same.

CRI means CSI_RS resource indicator.

Yes agree its indicator of position of CSI-RS in frame structure.
We have positions for CSI-RS in symbols as well I’m referring same.
For FR2 cri rsrp not possible as per my understanding as no refined beam option for FR2.
I posted same query on LinkedIn as well yesterday to take global experts view.
You can add up in same post so we can reach to fruitful conclusion.

Do you mean there is no CSI-RSRP for FR2?

I mean no CSI-RS beam.

CSI-RSRP is measured from CSI-RS beams…In that case this is not right. We have CSI-RSRP reported for mmwaves.
The snap showed for MAC CSF info is of mmWave.

Already we have 32 ssb beam for FR2 how can it possible to use refined beam further narrow beams.

Please share snapshot where you have seen with FR2.
I think you’re seeing cri only…

No, It’s CSI-RSRP itself.

There are upto 4 resources for CRI and the best of these 4 will be selected by gNB to communicate to Ue using CSI-RS beams.
