Looking forward to knowing more 5G Use cases and implementation
Mobile communication is always in a state of innovation and development.
At present, some MNOs have already launched the first phase of 5G SA commercially and many other MNOs are catching up this space faster across the globe. 5G technology continues to evolve and 3GPP officially named the 5G evolution as “5G-Advanced" which is currently being standardized as part of Release 18.
5G-Advanced network will help to define new goals and capabilities for the 5G evolution to enable the generation of greater social and economic value through network evolution and technological enhancements.
The first release of the 5G-Advanced era, Release 18 is due in 2024.
From the SA2 perspective, the features could be grouped into several main categories like:
- Enhanced Services : XR, Enhanced IMS, MBS, Priority Services, Ranging-based Services, LCS.
- Advanced IoT Use Cases: UAS/UAV, RedCap, Satellite, Personal IoT, TSC, DetNet.
- Architectural Aspects: Satellite backhaul, NPN, SFC, ProSe enhancements, Sidelink Positioning, Mobile Relays, Wireless-Wireline Convergence;
- Automation and Optimization: AI/ML in CN, Edge computing, NW Automation, NW Slicing.
Some of the use cases in Rel-18 will be the enhancements to the already settled functionalities and others will provide further advancements to the 5G system.
One of the 5G NR R17 use case or most popular usecase is REDCAP(Reduced Capabilty) NR Light.
